Hello friends,

Welcome back to World on My Bookshelf, my little travel series through the stories and art that shaped my world. Each stop takes us somewhere new, not through airports or borders, but through pages and pictures. This time, we’re heading to Bulgaria to meet Ivan Gantschev, an artist whose gentle watercolors have stayed with me ever since I first discovered his books as a broke art student. His paintings remind me that wonder still lives in small things: a patch of sky, a bird in flight, a child’s quiet curiosity.

Read on to find out how I first stumbled upon his work and why his world of light and color still feels so timeless. And make sure to obtain a book by him from your local bookshop. Any good bookshop would and should have books illustrated by him. Believe me, you will learn a lot: about illustration, art, nature and life…
